a shady spot

Like many of the dogs, Bella would crawl under a parked car or lorry to get away from the heat of the summer sun. When I went out to look for her, if she wasn't in sight, I ,knew to start checking under the cars. I always worried about her doing this. Drivers never checked when they drove off and Bella was a big dog - it took her a few moments to scrabble out from under a car. Thankfully, she always managed to get out in time.

Here, she's sleeping safely under our car in our driveway. Bella and the other dogs were never supposed to make it beyond the gate of our house. The story of how they gradually took over is coming in the next post. Taken on 5 April 2006.
